I have been a bit bad at posting recently…some of my summer and early autumn highlights include Portland in Fitzrovia, Silk Road in Camberwell and The Sportsman down near Whitstable. All places have been extensively reviewed elsewhere so please go and look them up!
A bit further afield, I went to a very impressive wine and food pairing at Gantenbein, Flash in Switzerland. And in Milan, the Osteria Gran Burrone finally managed to persuade me that tripe was worth eating…! Mmm…tasty food from Puglia…
One of the less well known places which impressed me over summer is a bar at the top of Cleveland Street called The Remedy. The bar was set up by three ex-employees of Terriors, and it really shows in terms of carefully edited wine list. We enjoyed some bar snacks, including oysters, and sampled a fair selection of the wines.
The hit of the evening was a Palo Cortado from Cayetano del Pino y Cia…after having a few glasses of that, we couldn’t remember too much more of what we had drunk…
Booking is advisable at weekends and it’s definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.
