We popped in here after trying the spa at York Hall leisure centre in Bethnal Green – the place was pretty empty as we were practically at the start of service. We decided to be decadent and have cocktails to start, and then snacked on tangy devils on horseback and super-fresh ricotta on toast with honey. That was followed by an unctuous ox cheek for me, and a burratta for my companion, and then mains were lamb with greens and colcannon and confit duck with prunes and greens. All the dishes were extremely tasty and the sommelier recommended some interesting wines for us.
So often places like this end up being either a) pretentious and ‘too cool for school’ or b) overly friendly, but here, the service was perfect and the food delicious without being too fussy. I remarked to my companion that this definitiely beats Sunday roast!
