This is the new Jason Atherton place, inspired by Japanese food. We decided to go for the lunch set menu (£29.50) and were overwhelmed with both the quality and the amount of food we received. Highlights included a crispy pork tonkotsu and chicken karage, and a very well balanced and interesting chirashi sushi. Most of the other diners seemed to be taking food a la carte, and we were quite jealous of their choices. My only grumble was that I had to ask to look at the wine list (I know people drink less at lunch, but I enjoy seeing what is on the list; for what it’s worth, the sake list is comprehensive, well-described and approachable).
I’d recommend Sosharu to people who like Japanese food. The food isn’t a direct copy of Japanese classics, but a thoughtful interpretation of the type of food you get in top-end restaurants in Tokyo.
